With Easter falling early in 2008, the Trinity Arts Festival will be held in May and it promises to be an exciting affair.

The Trinity Sunday Festival Family Eucharist will be held on 18th May and, as usual, will include a short Mass setting sung liturgically through the service. The music will be Schubert’s Mass in G, Haydn’s Te Deum and Mozart’s Laudate Dominum.

The annual exhibition of art work by many local artists has become a “must see” event for our patrons. A wide range of styles suitable for most tastes will be on show. If you wish to exhibit please contact Christine Garner (01704 538560). Entry forms are available in church.

The exhibition will be open:
Saturday 10th May 10.00am - 6.00pm
Sunday 11th May 12.00 noon - 5.00pm

Complimentary to the Art Exhibition will be a display by the Merseyside Guild of Weavers in the Small Hall.Home made refreshments - tea, coffee, cakes, soup and sandwiches will be available throughout the opening hours.

We have three flagship events this year. The first is is a singing group, Lyra, from St Petersburg in Russia in concert on Saturday, 10th May.
They are an a capella group usually of five or six members who are postgraduates working in various fields of music. Their main aim is to explore and popularise Russian choir music. They want to introduce the enormous musical heritage of the Russian Orthodox Church, as well as traditional Russian folk music. The ensemble have won certificates at the Montreux International Choral Festival and were winners at the Coleraine International Choral festival.
Our second big event is on Saturday, 17th May, with a concert by the Welsh male voice choir, Côr Godre'r Aran.
The Côr Godre’r Aran was formed in 1949 in Llanuwchllyn, a village nestling between the shores of Lake Bala and the Aran Mountain - an inspiring location and an area steeped in history, literature and music.
Over the years the choir has travelled extensively, with tours to Canada, USA, Argentina, Brazil, Hong Kong, Singapore, Portugal, New Zealand and Australia.
They were Male Choirs Competition winners at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in 2000 & 2005.
Enjoy the magnificent sound of this excellent choir in the superb acoustic of Holy Trinity Church.

The third major event is on Saturday, 24th May when the renowned Leyland Band visit us. They were formed in 1946 as the Leyland Motors Band and have since become famous both locally and throughout the country having won the National Brass Band Competition in 2005. Brass always sounds good in the fine acoustic of our church and we are confident that the Leyland Band will give us a thrilling concert that will attract an audience from far and wide, especially as it will conclude with the finale from the Last Night of The Proms.

This year we are to revive a series of lunchtime recitals - a popular feature of the early years of the Trinity Festival some forty years ago. These will take place in Church between 1 and 1.45 pm from Monday, 12th to Friday, 16th May.

On Monday, 12th May, Michael Furmedge will play the flute and on the followingday (Tuesday 13th, the Young Musicians of Merchant Taylors' Girls' School, will perform.

Dr Sue Garner Jones has promised us a literary event on the Wednesday (14th) and Nicholas Tudor and his young friends will play for us on Thursday, 15th May.

The series will also include an Organ Recital by the Director of Music at Holy Trinity,David Williams, on Friday 16th May.

We are to continue with the recent years practice of holding a craft workshop and this will be on Friday, 23rd May when James Gray will lead us in a workshop on sketching and artistic techniques. Materials and refreshments included in the ticket price.

Another chance for a "Hands on" evening will be on Friday, 16th May when we shall hold a Medieval Banquet in the Parish Centre; we shall be joined by a real live Lord & Lady and there will be various entertainments.

Our own Hesketh Trio will present a recital of Chamber Music from around the British Isles on Tuesday, 20th May.

The Festival will close with the now traditional Festal Evensong on Sunday, 25th May when we invite everyone associated with the Festival and all our friends to join us.

The Festal Evensong will includ Stanford in A, Let All The World by Vaughan Williams and I was Glad by Parry.
